Josh Allen’s Audible Sparks NFL Buzz: Was It Taylor Swift or J.R. Smith?

There’s a new NFL controversy that fans can’t seem to agree on.

During “Thursday Night Football” between the Bills and the Buccaneers, a 24-18 Buffalo win, quarterback Josh Allen was heard giving an audible call before a play in the first quarter.

On the second-and-10 play, Allen could be heard yelling a new call to his team, which may have been “Taylor Swift.”

In theory, that could make sense, given her popularity in the football world these days amid her Travis Kelce romance.

But other fans were convinced that the Bills’ signal-caller was yelling the name of former Knicks guard and 2016 NBA champion with the Cavaliers, J.R. Smith.

After the game, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Allen clarified that he did indeed say Smith, not Swift.

But before that, a debate raged on Twitter that might not have reached the heights of 2015’s “The Dress,” or 2018’s “Yanny or Laurel” viral argument, but it still set NFL social media ablaze during the first half of the game.

People were already questioning the words, but some were fully entrenched.

“Is Josh Allen saying “J. R. Smith” or “Taylor Swift,” wrote one user.

“‘Did Josh Allen say jr smith or Taylor swift’ is gonna be the new black or blue dress discourse debate,” posited another.

“He’s clearly saying, JR Smith,” wrote one user on X.

One user clearly thought it was the pop star that Allen was referring to.

“People of a certain stripe desperately want this to be JR Smith, but it’s Taylor Swift,” they wrote.

Early on in the second quarter, Allen definitively called an audible out with “LeBron James.”
