Elon Musk’s two-time ex-wife, Talulah Riley, denied being a “trad wife” after marrying Thomas Brodie Sangster and moving to a rural homestead.
Riley, 39, addressed her countryside lifestyle in north Hertfordshire, England — where she makes meals from scratch and takes care of numerous animals — in an essay for the Sunday Times.
“We live in an era where lifestyles are commoditized online, indexed by hashtags,” the actress explained in the think-piece, which was published Sunday. “We are encouraged to ‘be the brand’ and exert influence, prioritizing personal growth.”
However, she shut down the notion of labeling her lifestyle, calling her circumstances, “many-faceted.”
“So please don’t call me a trad wife,” she begged of the viral term that refers to an old-fashioned stay-at-home-wife and homemaker role. “I’ve been divorced twice — there’s nothing trad about that unless you’re Zsa Zsa Gabor.”
The “Price & Prejudice” star was married to the billionaire Tesla founder from 2010 to 2012 and again from 2013 to 2016. The exes have no children together, though Musk shares 12 children with three different women.
“Happiness, for me, has wandered in slowly and seems directly proportional to the number of chickens that come tapping at the kitchen door every morning,” Riley wrote.
She added that her current husband “might also have something to do with it.”
Riley quoted the philosopher Spinoza, who said, “Happiness is a virtue, not its reward.”
“So I’m going to focus on propagating rosemary rather than personal growth,” she wrote, adding, “Here on the (fake) farm it’s all about love and manure, actually. Slap a hashtag on us, if you will. Or come and join us.”
Riley, who called herself “privileged and unemployed,” and the “Love Actually” actor, 34, reside on just under 20 acres with four dogs, two horses, a pony, two pigs, a hive of bees, three geese, 15 chickens, countless ducks and 70 sheep.
They also have plans to take in a milk cow as she is “mad for raw milk.”
“I’m now in my 30s and safely home in the UK, and it’s full steam ahead on the rural idyll,” Riley wrote, referring to her brief stint residing in Los Angeles with Musk.
“Thomas, who was born and raised within the sound of Bow bells, took to country life immediately, though he still pretends not to know the difference between a horse and a cow to liven up long car journeys. He is a carpenter and mechanic as well as an aesthete.”
Riley and Sangster tied the knot in front of friends and family at St. George’s Church in England on June 22 after meeting on set of the “Sex Pistols” FX series nearly three years prior.
