Travis Kelce’s most recent Instagram post has sparked backlash as he remains quiet about the 2024 presidential election.
Taking to social media Wednesday after the country woke up to the news that Donald Trump had been re-elected, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end chose to reminisce about his most recent football win instead.
“Arrowhead at night ️,” he captioned several photos from Monday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which the Chiefs won 30-24 in overtime at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.
Following the celebratory post, many followers slammed Kelce, 35, for boasting about his win rather than reacting to the presidential news.
“bb love you but feel like maybe this could have been rescheduled to post any day but today,” one person wrote, while another suggested, “trav i love u but pls read the room.”
A third fan noted, “Travis pls not right now we’re mourning,” and a fourth commented, “Not today Travis.”
A fifth quoted Kourtney Kardashian when her sister Kim Kardashian lost her diamond earring in the ocean, saying, “Kim, there’s people that are dying.”
However, many defended the “Grotesquerie” actor, saying he was not obligated to comment on politics.
“Is it possible to not make everything about politics and just let him celebrate the win?” one person asked.
“It blows my mind that some of you think he shouldn’t be posting about his football game today because the election didn’t go how you wanted,” another wrote.
“This is a football players page, not a political page. No one can post anything other than how upset they are about the election? Get out of here with that. There is enough places on social media to talk about politics,” the second Instagram user continued.
Meanwhile, a third commented, “There is an awful lot of people asking Travis to read the room. Excuse a quick question, but didn’t he just play football?
“Are there rules as to when he should or not post about football on his football page? The man plays football and posts about football. It’s his job to play football and choose a day, any day he wants to post about it.”
Kelce has never publicly spoken about his political beliefs. However, his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, has openly and continuously slammed President-elect Trump, 78, and his ideologies.
On Sept. 10, the 14-time Grammy winner endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the run for POTUS.
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Swift, 34, posted on Instagram. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.
“I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades,” she continued.
Swift also condemned an artificial intelligence photo that showed her “falsely” supporting Trump.
“It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” she explained. “It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
The pop star previously blasted Trump in August 2020, accusing him of trying to “blatantly cheat and put millions of Americans’ lives at risk in an effort to hold on to power” after he allegedly tried to prevent mail-in ballots.
